Broken key extraction in Bethlehem, PA
A key snapped off in the door, the deadbolt or the ignition. We remove the piece without damaging the lock, then cut you a new key on the spot.
Why keys snap, and why you should stop
Keys break because they are worn thin, because they were copied from a copy of a copy, or because the lock they are in is stiff and the key took the strain. The piece left inside is usually sitting right at the front of the keyway, and the worst thing you can do is push it deeper with a screwdriver or a second key.
We use extractor tools made for this: thin hooked or serrated blades that slide alongside the broken piece and pull it forward. On most locks it takes a few minutes and the lock is unharmed.

Where we pull them from
Any lock with a keyway. The approach changes a little by lock type, the result is the same.
- Front door knobs and deadbolts
- Car door locks and trunks
- Ignition cylinders
- Padlocks and gates
- Mailboxes and cabinets
- Commercial storefront locks
If the key broke because the lock is stiff, we will tell you, and we can service or replace the lock while we are there.
Then a key that will not break again
Once the piece is out we have both halves, which is enough to cut a fresh key by code rather than tracing a worn one. For a car with a transponder key we program the new one to the car as well. For a house, we cut as many copies as you want.
The pricing structure covers the extraction and any new keys separately, so you only pay for what you need. It is explained on the phone before we come out.
Broken key questions
I pushed it in further. Is it still fixable?
Almost always. It may take longer or need the cylinder removed, and we will tell you if that changes the pricing structure before we go ahead.
Will the lock still work after?
Yes, if the lock was in good shape before. If it was the stiff lock that broke the key, it will still be stiff, and we can fix that too.
Can I use super glue to pull it out?
Please do not. Glue on the pins means a new lock instead of a quick extraction.
